StatSheet's Big West Player of the Week for January 21st goes to Long Beach State's James Ennis. StatSheet's Big West Freshman of the Week goes to Long Beach State's Deng Deng. And finally, UC Irvine's Chris McNealy is the StatSheet Big West 6th Man of the Week. Ennis put up huge numbers in shooting (60%), assists (4 per game), and scoring (20 pts per game). The Long Beach State senior put these numbers up in victories against UC Riverside and Cal State Fullerton.
Ennis led all rebounding for the 49ers with 7 while adding 5 steals in a close 91-82 win over UC Riverside. He followed that up by leading the team in scoring and rebounding with 23 points and 11 rebounds in an 81-71 victory over Cal State Fullerton.
This is the second time this season that James Ennis has been selected StatSheet Big West Player of the Week. The runner-up this week is Corey Hawkins, a junior from UC Davis. Honorable mention goes to Keala King, a junior from Long Beach State. Stephen Maxwell was the highest ranking player from Cal State Northridge, finishing fifth.
StatSheet Big West Freshman of the Week: Long Beach State's Deng Deng
Deng Deng averaged 21 minutes of playing time as a starter for Long Beach State. In the win over UC Riverside, Deng chalked up 4 points and 3 rebounds. Following that in the win over Cal State Fullerton, he dialed up 15 points and 6 rebounds.
This is the first StatSheet Big West Freshman of the Week award for Deng Deng. Reese Morgan from Cal Poly grabs runner-up. Michael Bryson from UC-Santa Barbara receives honorable mention.
StatSheet Big West 6th Man of the Week: UC Irvine's Chris McNealy
Chris McNealy, a junior and a 6-4 guard, averaged 26 minutes over two games for the Anteaters. In a lopsided 92-65 win over Cal State Fullerton, McNealy led all Anteaters in scoring with 21 points and contributed 6 assists. During a 68-58 loss to UC Riverside, he racked up 8 points and 3 steals.
This is Chris McNealy's second StatSheet Big West 6th Man of the Week award this season. Kyle Boswell, a junior guard from UC-Santa Barbara, is the runner up. Tony Gill, a junior forward from Pacific, earns honorable mention. Cal State Northridge has yet to win StatSheet Big West Player of the Week.
